One common, but potentially dangerous, dental issue is gum disease. This disease has three stages, and if it is caught early enough, it can be prevented from getting worse. This stops recession from getting worse and prevents bone loss while reducing sensitivity and protecting the roots from decay. During this procedure, tissue is taken from the palate or other location, and then it is used to cover the roots.
If the infection gets very bad, it may cause a severe infection known as an abscess. The dentist needs to drain the abscess and thoroughly clean the area.
Advanced gum disease leads to underlying bone loss. This can cause teeth to loosen. If a tooth cannot be saved, the dentist may need to remove it. Because even one missing tooth has long-term consequences, the dentist will recommend a method for replacement.
It is important to catch gum disease right away so steps can be taken to prevent it from getting worse. The right dentist will be able to detect the issue even before symptoms appear and recommend the proper treatment.
